Print
Kostel sv. Ondřeje

The St. Andrew´s Church is without any doubt the most important sight in Kolovraty. The church is located by the main road (Mírová street) towards the south-eastern end of the village.

A small Roman church had been founded in Kolovraty before 1250 by the Ostrov monastery. In early 14th century a Gothic single-aisle church was built at the current location, both the church and the rectory were first mentioned in 1352. Remains of its choir with the cross vault can be located on the ground floor of the Baroque belfry today. Lancet Gothic portal with profiled lining used to connect the choir with the already non-existent sacristy.  The local parish also served the neighbouring village of Nedvězí.

Burial ground existed in the churchyard ever since the St. Andrew´s Church was built.  It had originally served the parish which included villages of Kolovraty and Nedvězí and later on also the village of Tehovice, which formally belonged to the Uhříněves parish but was geographically cl oser to Kolovraty.

In 1767 during the Baroque renovation of the church, the graveyard was extended. In 1926 a new cemetery „At Saint Donatus´" was opened.  Burials ceased at the old burial ground and the owners of the graves were asked to move their family tombs with the remains of their dead to the new cemetery.
